Sophie is an Estonian style shawl that I published back in 2013.
I used photos to put together the motifs for this shawl. These photos were in an Estonian Lace book. There was a second book put out before I published this pattern with a recipe for this shawl.
I honestly don’t know if I used the recipe to make the shawl I published or not.

When I went to get ready to refresh this pattern, I pulled the books out to find the names of the motifs, because I hadn’t listed them in the pattern. That’s when I realized that there is recipe for this shawl in the second book. As an artist who wouldn’t want my work copied I decided that it would be wrong and irresponsible to leave this pattern available as written.
However I do need a pattern to replace this because it is promised as part of a collection for the Mountains and Plains Fibershed and I have 9 skeins of yarn to make it.
I looked over what I had, the idea from when I made Sophie back in 2013 and came up with Cherry Hills. It is still a Colorado based idea and motif. I will share more next month when I have more knitting on the piece done so that I have more than words to share.
The pattern for the Sophie pattern will be available in both my Ravelry and Payhip store for free using the code below through the end of August 15, 2023, mountain time. After that Sophie will no longer be available.
Coupon code is FreeSophie
Because it is a recipe I can legally have the pattern and sell it. I no longer wish to do that. I also didn’t want to rip it from the internet without a chance for those who want it to grab it or without explanation.
When I see that I’ve done something wrong or questionable, I do what I can fix it and do better in the future.
Happy Making!
