First Row After Cast On

I thought that sharing a photo of what the first row looks like after cast on would be helpful to know that you’re on the right track. I have made a swatch of garter and stockinette for each technique that I have shared.

There is also a link to the video tutorial if it has one. I will update this post as I make more videos.

For each swatch I cast on 15 sts and then worked 8 rows of the stitch. This would be a great time to use those adventure tags! See HERE for tags.

BACKWARDS LOOP CAST ON

KNITTED CAST ON 1

As I was making these little swatches I learned that I was working the knitted cast on incorrectly for my entire knitting career. This is another one of those things that stems from being a left taught left handed knitter. Below you can see the twist that is added because I work the first row into the back loop. That is how the video tutorial is worked. I will be making a new tutorial with the correct directions in the future.

This is what it looks like when worked correctly.

PROVISIONAL CAST

There are many other cast on options and many different ways to use these. I thought this visual would be helpful in learning what the bottom of each looks like and knowing how to accurately count the rows or rounds after the cast on.

Is there a cast on you’d like me to add? Drop a comment below.

Happy Making!
