Airing Out Woollies

About once or twice a year, depending on when I think about it, I air out my woollies, refresh the mothballs and move things around.

This is to head off the moths, check for damage, deal with an infestation if needed and switch things out for the season. I will post in future about how to identify moths and deal with them.

These are the mothballs that I use. I love the smell of the lavender and they are made in the USA. I switch these out about once a quarter. They are in storage totes, taped inside cabinets and sitting on shelves in closets. I’ve not had an infestation in the house in the four years I’ve lived in this house. I’ve been using these packets for longer than that but can’t remember how long since an infestation in my finished items or yarn stash. Keep these little packets stored in an air tight container if not using them. The contents sort of evaporates is the best way I can explain it. Also keep them out of reach of children and pets. Wash after you touch them.

This time I took all the accessories that I had hanging up the office and the ones stuffed in the cubbies in the coat closet, to the table outside to air out. There wasn’t as much sun as I would have liked and the rain clouds came in early that day but I was happy to see that there wasn’t any sign of moths.

These are nearly all my designs. Some crochet and some knit. If you want to know the name of any of the patterns please ask.

I sorted things back out and put them away where I want them in preparation for next season. It’s in the high 90s right now but cooler weather is coming and I want to be ready!

Do you live where you switch out woollies seasonally? Do you have something other than woollies? maybe plant fiber items? Please share in the comments.

Happy season change and happy making!
