This shawl came together for a couple of reasons, but my favorite reason of all is the Choke Cherry trees along the Cherry Creek that runs through Colorado. The motifs include branches and I used the nupp stitch for cherries. The photo above was taken in the “ballroom” of the oldest house in Centennial, Colorado and it sits near the edge of Cherry Creek.
Cherry Hills is a large rectangular shawl.
The finished size is 72″ x 72″ / 180 x 180 cm
2,000 yds / 1,829 m lace weight yarn
Original was knitted using Mountain Meadow Wool, Hanna, in Rose.
335 yds/ 306 m per 56 g skein. I used 6 skeins.
US size 4 / 3.5 mm, 24” / 60cm circular needle and one US size 6 / 4.5mm, 32” / 80cm circular needle. Or sizes needed to obtain desired fabric. The larger needle is used for the edging.
23 sts and 38 rows to 4” / 10 cm in swatch pattern, blocked. Measuring between the garter stitch frame stitches.
6 ring stitch markers
Techniques used in this pattern include different types of decreases, yarn overs, nupps and sewing. The pattern will have links to the tutorials. You can see the list of all my tutorials HERE and check out my YouTube channel.
This shawl is made by knitting the center body first and then knitting two pieces of edging and sewing them on before blocking.
