Somethings are Never Forgotten…

One of the first patterns I ever wrote down was for these baby booties. I have them from all sizes of baby feet. From 16 weeks gestation to 3 months old.

This was a popular pattern in the community stitching group I was part of in Aurora, Colorado for many years.

Then I made some for a special project called the Mourning Project. They had to all be gray, black or white. Those were the last ones I made.

Until…

The Kid’s ministry director at the church I attend here in Las Cruces, New Mexico asked for that and bootie sets for gifts for new moms.

The hat was easy to start with because I had recently made a baby hat using worsted weight yarn. That one was color work but it gave me a needle size and stitch count and I made it into a 2 x 2 rib and it looks great.

I hadn’t really thought about what I was going to do for booties. I haven’t a knitted bootie pattern that I just love in all these years.

In the morning is when I was working on the hat and one morning I thought about these crocheted booties. I got up and grabbed a hook and wondered to myself if I would remember the pattern or if I would have to dig it up from the bowels of the computer.

I sat and thought about how many to chain and the first round. I decided if I could do the first 3 rounds I could probably make the entire bootie.

Guys it was 6am, I don’t do coffee but this is usually a time of day reserved for “waking up” and not thinking too much or hard, but guess what? I did it! To took almost 30 minutes to make one bootie but I did it and it looked good.

So the new mom gifts are knitted ribbed hats and crocheted booties.

Next week I will have this pattern written up and I’ll post here on the blog. Subscribe so you don’t miss it.
