Preparation Counts!

From cooking to road trips to movie night, preparation can make a big difference.

Like many other areas in life, fiber arts is no exception to this idea.

The better you prepare for a project, the better that project will go.

For a new stitching project you gather the yarn, thread, tools and instructions. Then you swatch or sample, well you should, most of the time. I understand that not all projects require a swatch for various reasons but swatching is part of good preparation.

A well planned and prepared project means better stitching time and more of that time spent stitching and not looking for tools, yarn or anything else. Compare color combinations too to prevent ripping an unwanted mix.

If you swatch for a project that has unfamiliar aspects to it, stitches or some other technique then this will save time too. Swatching an unfamiliar part means that you won’t be putting the project down to pick up a tutorial. You will have already done that part.

For a spinning project to go well you want to begin with fiber that has been well prepared, either by you, a mill or a combination thereof. Poorly prepared fiber will result in poor yarn quality no matter how skilled the spinner is.

Be prepared as much as you can. Prepping in hobbies and crafts will develop into habits that will spill into your daily life.

Happy Making!
