About this time last year Lora of Campfiber Yarns announced that she would be doing seasonal yarn collections about the forest for 2023.
I decided to join in the fun. When each season came up for preorder I got one skein of non super wash DK in each color. I have all 36 colors now!

I knew that I wanted to make a blanket but had no idea what kind of blanket it would be. I hadn’t even decided if it would be knit or crochet.
In a magazine or maybe an email, not sure now, I saw a review for a book called Granny Square Academy 2. Well does that mean there is a “1”? Yes, yes there is. I ordered both of those and also Granny Square Falir from Shelly Husband. These books are well put together, with both written and charted crochet patterns. I can’t wait to get started!

I started swatching to find the crochet hook I wanted and it is US size “K”. I don’t have a size “K” from Crochic and wanted one of their Onyx hooks.

I waited until I was in possession of all the skeins so that I could take photos. It was a fun shoot!
I planned, based on that swatch, and ordered extra yarn for joining the squares and then adding a final edging.
I will use each skein to make 2 squares. I will then play around with placement. When I have decided on placement I will put on the final round of crochet and join them together at the same time. Like a join as you go but I’m doing all the joining at the end.
I am now slowly winding the skeins. They will live in a basket until I use them and then the leftover will be balled and put in the DK bin I have.
I am going to start on January 1, 2024 with book 1 and square 1.
I’ll post here about my progress and the things I learn.
Happy Making!
