Choose any yarn with the appropriate sized needles and follow the written directions to make a small stockinette piece with a garter border.
Then using the chart and a contrasting colors of yarn in the same weight and similar fiber, duplicate stitch the picture onto your swatch.

Cast 26 stitches using any desired cast on.
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: K3, P across to the last 3 sts, K3.
Rows 7-24: Rep Rows 5 and 6, 9 times.
Rows 25-28: Rep Rows 1-4, once.
Bind off as desired.
Block the swatch BEFORE working the duplicate stitch.
Block again after duplicate stitching is completed.
