This will be an on-going series in addition to my weekly blog post. The category is “Aloe Wish Hiss” and I will link to it at the beginning of each entry in case you missed something.
I am going to design a sweater that is a layering piece. Even though I live in the desert in southern New Mexico there are still times I want something more than a shawl but less than a coat, and will need it only for a short amount of time.
Because it is a layering piece it will need to be a little bit over-sized. I’m thinking a quarter “zip”, there will be no zipper, just buttons, pullover, with set-in sleeves and a couple of choices for pockets.
To complicate this I want to have a cardigan and full pullover versions available. And to go one step further, I want to make a crochet and a knit version.
The goal is to have ALL of them sized from toddler to adult 64″ chest.
Right now these are just my ideas, over the next few weeks we’ll see what sticks. I began swatching on December 10, 2025. I will be starting with Brown Sheep Company (BSC) yarns and some new to me Mountain Meadow Wool (MMW) yarns. I’m going swatch for the knit version using Prairie Spun DK from BSC and Alpine from MMW. For the crochet version using I am Lanaloft Sport from BSC and Saratoga from MMW.
I have a few others in there for good measure.

Next I’ll share photos of the swatches, hooks and needles used and what my current final choices are.
Happy making!
