You SHOULD Have more than one Project at a Time

I’m an advocate for having more than one project at a time. I currently have 5 projects that aren’t packed. I only have a couple more that are and if they weren’t I’d have less going overall. I had to fill the gaps.

Gaps? That’s why we’re here to talk about how to have more than one project while still completing projects and not becoming overwhelmed.

Let’s talk about the 5 projects I have not packed. I’ll list them first and then explain their role.

Monarch Hats

Mittens

Nutcracker

Fluff scarf

Red lace

The monarch hats are the project for my go bag. 90% of the work on these is done outside of the house. I cast on, set up, dec and finish at home. This is my keep busy during waiting project.

Mittens are next to my chair in the living room and also what I am currently designing. As a designer I generally have some sort of a design that I am working but it can’t be my only “at home” project, because there are more time out periods for projects when designing.

The nutcracker is also next to the chair. I started it just because I wanted something to work on and not design. It is a kit for a client.

The fluff scarf is something I started so that I could have some idiot work during this move. I didn’t design it though I did tech edit it. It is small and will fit in my go bag if needed.

I also left out a red lace project, that is ambitious even on the best of days, but just in case I needed something like that I wanted it nearby. The red lace project is worked on 00 / 1.75mm needles using yarn that has 650 yards / 594 m per 50g. I do enjoy it but it isn’t something I can do while in conversation or on the go.

You need multiple projects for the following reasons.
1. In case the one you’re working on runs out of yarn, have a mistake in the pattern or you get to a point that you can’t work on it in a group setting.
2. A project that can be worked on in a group setting and something that challenges you.
3. One crochet and one knit, if you do or are learning both crafts.
4. If you get bored and have something else to choose you are less likely to start something random.
